A piece of 1.2 thousand tons is installed in one of the machines of Brazil’s Belo Monte.

The assembly of generator unit # 6 of the main house of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant goes another step with the installation of the generator rotor, held yesterday (02/13). The set of components of 1.2 thousand tons was positioned with the aid of the cranes of the House of. This is the last large component to start the process of closing the generating unit.

The generator rotor is the heaviest part of a generating unit. It is one of the fundamental equipment to generate energy in a hydroelectric plant. When mounting a vertical machine, such as those installed in the Belo Monte Site, the turbine rotor, 320-ton part, turbine shaft and stator are mounted before the generator rotor.

The electromechanical assembly in Belo Monte advances daily following the schedule established in the concession agreement. Currently, the generating unit n ° 5 is in the final phase to begin the commissioning with the first mechanical turn, scheduled for this month, and the commercial operation scheduled for the month of March.

Belo Monte has ten generating units in operation: all six of the Complementary Strength House in the Pimental Site, and four in the Main House of Strength, in the Belo Monte Site. In total, the plant will have 24 turbines operating commercially, with an installed capacity of 11,233.1 MW. The hydroelectric dam is scheduled to be completed in 2019.
