PNE AG has completed the sale of two German onshore wind farm projects with a combined capacity of 45 MW to a consortium of private investors, continuing a busy year of project disposals while retaining a long-term operational role through its asset management subsidiary.
The transaction covers the Wulfsdorf A project in Schleswig-Holstein and Kuhstedt III in Lower Saxony. Both developments are already under construction and are being delivered as repowering schemes, replacing older-generation turbines with larger, more efficient machines capable of producing substantially more electricity from established wind energy sites.
Although PNE has not disclosed the identity of the investors or the financial terms of the transaction, the company confirmed that operational management of both wind farms will remain within the group through energy consult GmbH, allowing PNE to continue generating recurring service revenues after the sale.
Repowering remains central to Germany’s wind expansion
Repowering has become one of the most important drivers of Germany’s onshore wind market, enabling developers to increase renewable electricity production while minimising additional land use and simplifying grid integration.
The two projects illustrate that strategy.
Wulfsdorf A
Located in the Ostholstein district of Schleswig-Holstein, Wulfsdorf A will comprise four Vestas turbines:
- two V150-6.0 MW turbines
- two V162-6.2 MW turbines
The wind farm will have a total installed capacity of 24.4 MW.
Construction is already underway, with commercial operation expected in December 2026.
Kuhstedt III
The Kuhstedt III project is located in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district of Lower Saxony.
The development consists of:
- two Nordex N175 turbines rated at 6.8 MW each
- one Nordex N163 turbine rated at 7.0 MW
Total installed capacity will reach 20.6 MW, with commissioning expected around the turn of 2026/27.
Together, the two projects are expected to generate enough renewable electricity to supply approximately 31,000 average three-person households annually.
Projects secured German auction awards
Both wind farms form part of PNE’s successful participation in Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) renewable energy auctions.
The projects previously secured support under the country’s competitive tendering system, providing the revenue certainty required to move into construction. Wulfsdorf and Kuhstedt III were among four PNE projects awarded contracts in the same auction round, reinforcing the company’s position in the German onshore market.
Long-term operations stay with PNE
Although ownership has transferred to private investors, PNE will continue managing both assets through energy consult GmbH, one of Germany’s established independent providers of technical and commercial wind farm management.
The subsidiary oversees operational management, maintenance coordination, performance monitoring, commercial administration and technical optimisation for wind energy assets throughout Europe. Retaining operations after project sales has become an important element of PNE’s business model, providing stable long-term income alongside project development.
No financing partners disclosed
PNE has not announced the financing structure for either project, nor has it identified the purchasing investors.
Similarly, no lending banks, institutional financiers or export credit agencies have been disclosed.
On the construction side, turbine supply has been split between two leading manufacturers:
- Vestas will supply and install the turbines for Wulfsdorf A.
- Nordex will provide the machines for Kuhstedt III.
PNE has not identified the balance-of-plant contractor, civil engineering contractor or electrical EPC responsible for either project.
Part of an active disposal programme
The latest transaction continues an active period of asset sales for PNE.
In recent months the company has also completed:
- the sale of the 10.8 MW Romescamps wind farm in France;
- the 25.2 MW Bokel wind farm in Germany;
- a 72 MW wind project in Poland; and
- a 40 MW photovoltaic project in Poland.
The disposals reflect PNE’s long-established build-and-sell strategy, under which the company develops projects through permitting and construction before monetising them while often retaining operational management responsibilities.
Chief Operating Officer Roland Stanze told DMVR that the latest transaction demonstrates both the value of repowering existing wind sites and the continuing appetite among investors for fully permitted, construction-ready renewable energy assets.
“Both projects demonstrate the value of repowering: we are making more efficient use of existing sites, deploying modern and highly efficient turbine technology, and significantly increasing renewable energy generation,” Stanze said.
He added that the transaction also highlights investor confidence in PNE’s project pipeline while allowing the company to remain closely involved through long-term operational management.
Growing development pipeline
The sale comes as PNE continues expanding its renewable energy portfolio across Europe.
The SDAX-listed developer has more than three decades of experience in onshore wind development and has broadened its activities to include solar PV, battery energy storage and independent power production.
Alongside project development, the group provides services covering the full asset lifecycle—from permitting, financing and construction through to operational management, repowering and technical optimisation.
With Germany increasingly relying on repowering to meet renewable energy targets while making more efficient use of existing wind sites, projects such as Wulfsdorf A and Kuhstedt III are expected to play an increasingly important role in the country’s energy transition.
