Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna is visiting Azerbaijan with an Estonian business delegation to strengthen economic and digital cooperation between the two countries. The delegation includes 15 companies from various sectors, and the visit will feature a meeting with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
“As a member of both the European Union and NATO, Estonia strongly supports strengthening cooperation between these organisations and Azerbaijan,” Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said in an interview with Kazakhstan news outlet APA. “Estonia can share its first-hand experience of integration by providing expertise in building resilient institutions, enhancing cybersecurity, and advancing digital governance.”
He added that within the EU, Estonia advocates for deeper engagement with the South Caucasus — including Azerbaijan — through initiatives focused on connectivity, energy security, and education. “Within NATO, we value Azerbaijan’s contributions to regional stability and its active participation in partnership programmes. We encourage continued collaboration in peacekeeping and security,” the minister noted.
Tsahkna also emphasised Azerbaijan’s pivotal role in ensuring Europe’s energy security: “Azerbaijan contributes to diversifying Europe’s energy routes and supplies, reducing reliance on any single source, and strengthening the region’s overall stability. From Estonia’s perspective, this role is particularly vital in the current geopolitical context, as Europe seeks dependable and sustainable energy partnerships. At the same time, the green transition presents new opportunities — cooperation in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and innovation could become a key dimension of our future engagement.”
