The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy has approved nearly €45 million in funding to expand high-capacity electricity storage systems nationwide, with a new call for applications opening on 10 October. The Environmental Project Management Agency (APVA) will manage the program.
The funding is open to both new projects and those that were not selected or placed on the reserve list from the €102 million June call. Applicants on the reserve list must withdraw their previous submissions through APVA before reapplying. Eligible projects must include facilities with a minimum generation capacity of 15 MW and up to 300 MWh of storage, with subsidies covering up to 30% of project costs, capped at €100,000 per MWh.
Applications will be accepted for 15 working days, and funding decisions are expected by the end of the year. Approved projects must be completed within 36 months of signing the funding agreement.
The Ministry aims to establish a supportive investment and regulatory framework to boost electricity storage infrastructure, targeting 1.5 GW of capacity by 2028 and a total storage volume of 4.4 GWh.
“This call marks a significant step toward implementing our ambitious network expansion plans. Increasing the capacity of the ‘LitPol Link’ interconnection and expanding storage systems will create favourable conditions for renewable energy growth and strengthen the regional market,” said Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas.
