Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas has officially announced the formation of his core political team, reinforcing the ministry’s capacity to drive Lithuania’s energy transition goals.
The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that two Deputy Ministers and an advisor will continue their work alongside Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas — Airidas Daukšas, Edita Gudauskienė, and Renata Surovec.
Deputy Minister Daukšas will oversee renewable energy development, green hydrogen production, and the expansion of energy storage facilities, as well as climate change policy, innovation, and coordination of EU energy investments.
Deputy Minister Gudauskienė will focus on ensuring a competitive and reliable energy supply across the electricity, natural gas, heating, and cooling sectors, while leading efforts to reduce energy poverty, improve efficiency, protect consumers, enhance grid flexibility, and optimise energy infrastructure.
Advisor Renata Surovec will continue to manage communications and public relations for the Ministry.
In addition to the core leadership, the Minister’s political team also includes Arnoldas Pikžirnis, responsible for energy security and strategic infrastructure; Rasa Kiūdytė, the Ministry’s Chancellor; Alvydas Sakavičius, overseeing regional energy supply and reliability; and Laima Nagienė, focusing on regional renewable energy policy. Together, they will contribute to advancing Lithuania’s energy transformation and strengthening national energy resilience.
Airidas Daukšas is a legal expert with extensive experience in energy law and regulation, having previously worked at Lithuania’s National Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) as a Senior Advisor and Acting Director of the Gas and Electricity Department. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law from Mykolas Romeris University and has been active in hydrogen innovation initiatives.
Edita Gudauskienė brings a strong background in Lithuania’s energy and business sectors, having held senior roles at the electricity distribution operator ESO, where she contributed to market liberalisation and smart grid development. She holds degrees in mechanical engineering from Kaunas University of Technology.
Renata Surovec, continuing as the Minister’s communications advisor, previously led the Communications Division at the Environmental Protection Department and has significant experience in public sector communications and stakeholder engagement.
Minister Vaičiūnas, who returned to the Ministry in December 2024 after previously serving as Minister of Energy from 2016 to 2020, emphasised that the newly formed political team reflects a balance of experience, innovation, and commitment to Lithuania’s long-term energy strategy.
“Our goal is to build a modern, resilient, and sustainable energy system that serves every citizen. This team brings the expertise and drive needed to achieve that vision,” Vaičiūnas told The Voice of Renewables.
The Ministry of Energy’s renewed leadership will focus on accelerating Lithuania’s transition to clean energy, enhancing regional energy security, and ensuring the country’s energy system remains competitive within the European market.
