Plenitude has started production at the second 200 MW block of the Renopool photovoltaic project, located in the municipality of Solana de los Barros, in Badajoz, Extremadura (Spain). Renopool, the largest solar project ever built by the company worldwide, with a total installed capacity of 330 MW, is now fully operational.
The complex consists of a 130 MW northern plant and a 200 MW southern plant. It has been designed with efficiency in mind, prioritising optimised land use through its layout. Renopool includes approximately 565,000 bifacial modules and is expected to generate an estimated 670 GWh of electricity annually.
The project has been successfully developed in line with the two-year timeline established by the company, creating a positive impact on employment and contributing to the social and economic development of Extremadura. Construction began in February 2024 with the development of the northern plant, which entered operation in June 2025. The project has now been completed with the commissioning of the southern plant.
During the construction phase, several archaeological discoveries were made, primarily dating back to the Chalcolithic period. Plenitude catalogued and preserved these findings while also laying the groundwork for future research activities. The archaeological monitoring carried out on site—in compliance with applicable requirements and in close coordination with the relevant public authorities, particularly the Regional Government of Extremadura and the Municipality of Solana de los Barros—enabled the integration of these discoveries into the project’s development. This approach ensured a harmonious balance between technological innovation and the preservation of the area’s historical heritage.
In addition, in accordance with the requirements established during the project authorisation process, Plenitude has promoted long-term initiatives focused on biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. These include an agreement with the Fundación Funpasos and the University of Extremadura to support five years of scientific research on wildlife presence and soil quality within the solar plants.
Plenitude reaffirms its commitment to the renewable energy sector in Extremadura, where it also operates in the retail energy market.
