SSE Energy Markets, part of SSE plc, has strengthened its portfolio of managed third-party assets by signing two long-term route-to-market Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Capital Dynamics an independent global private asset management firm and among the leading global renewable energy investment managers.
The agreements cover two onshore wind farms – Garbet and Lairg II – located in Scotland which are wholly owned by Capital Dynamics and were developed by EnergieKontor.
Together, the sites boast a combined installed capacity of 95.7MW and have secured Government Contracts for Difference (CfD) contracts. Both projects are expected to reach Commercial Operations Date (COD) in Q4 2026.
Under the 10-year PPAs, SSE Energy Markets will deliver route-to-market and optimisation services, including managing balancing risks and charges for Capital Dynamics at a fixed price. Additionally, SSE has agreed a fixed price for the Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates generated by the wind farms for the ten-year contracts.
These latest agreements mark a significant milestone for SSE Energy Markets, which now holds route-to-market contracts for 2.75GW of CfD-backed assets, reinforcing its position as a key player in the UK’s renewable energy trading landscape.
Gordon Bell, Managing Director of SSE Energy Markets, said: “Partnering with Capital Dynamics and EnergieKontor on these projects highlights our expertise in risk management and value optimisation for renewable assets through our best-in-class route-to-market services. This deal builds on our growing third-party portfolio and reinforces our position as the partner of choice for generators of this type.”
Garbet and Laig II will benefit from Capital Dynamics’ and EnergieKontor’s longstanding construction and operations management experience.
Barney Coles, Senior Managing Director, Co-Head of Clean Energy at Capital Dynamics said: “We’re pleased to partner with SSE Energy Markets and EnergieKontor as we deliver clean, low-cost and domestically sourced electricity for the UK. Strong corporate partnerships between investors, developers and utility companies are crucial for advancing the UK’s position as a global leader in renewable energy and for meeting national carbon reduction goals”.
“We are delighted to have arranged long-term power purchase agreements for the two wind farms on behalf of Capital Dynamics with SSE. They strengthen the expansion of renewable energies and contribute to a more sustainable energy supply. As a project developer, we are proud to have actively shaped this process and, together with our partners, to be making a valuable contribution to the energy transition,” said Peter Szabo, CEO of EnergieKontor AG.
