Lithuania Smashes It’s Own Renewable Energy Record

Lithuania just had its biggest month ever for green power. In September, 381 MW of new wind capacity was plugged into the grid – enough to power hundreds of thousands of homes.

The new additions come from two big wind farms: LT Energija’s 285 MW Pagėgiai project and Enefit Green’s 96 MW Kelmė project, both now in test mode.

With this boost, Lithuania’s wind and solar capacity has topped 5 GW for the first time – a major step toward the government’s goal of 8 GW by 2028.

“This is the best month for Lithuania’s energy sector since our synchronization with Western Europe,” said Acting Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas. “We’re proud to be accelerating renewables and strengthening our energy independence.”

Litgrid also praised the achievement, noting that record levels of renewable integration show the grid’s readiness to handle rapid growth in clean power. “Our task is to ensure that every new megawatt of green energy can flow into the system reliably,” the operator said.

Today, Lithuania runs on 2.3 GW of wind and 2.8 GW of solar, plus nearly 0.3 GW from other renewables. And the shift is showing up in the numbers: in the first eight months of 2025, renewables generated 67% of Lithuania’s electricity output, covering more than half of national demand (54%).
