A construction of a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 22 MW, equipped with an electricity storage system of 16,512 MWh has been today approved by The Government of Moldova.
The power plant will be located in the commune of Zîmbreni, Ialoveni district, covering an area of 18 hectares.
The investment is carried out by the company SRL “T.P.I.-PHARM”, which earlier this year presented the Ministry of Energy with the necessary documentation to obtain the construction permit.
“The Republic of Moldova has all the prerequisites to strengthen its energy independence by capitalizing on its own resources. We had months in which almost 40% of energy consumption was covered by renewable sources. On the other hand, it is essential to also invest in energy storage systems, which ensure the stability of the network and the efficiency of consumption. In this regard, very soon we will launch the second tender for the construction of renewable energy parks and storage systems”, Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu told The Voice of Renewables.
Moldovan law states that the installation of power plants with a capacity greater than 20 MW or the increase in the capacity of an existing plant requires the approval of the Government.
This investment adds to the ongoing efforts of the Republic of Moldova to expand its capacity to produce energy from renewable sources.
Currently, renewable power plants generate 784.09 MW, of which approximately 530 MW come from photovoltaic installations. At the national level, 345 photovoltaic parks operate, along with 7,252 prosumers – citizens and economic agents who have installed photovoltaic panels for self-consumption, within the framework of net metering and billing mechanisms.
As we reported in our previous publications, Moldovan Ministry of Energy has created a favourable landscape for renewable energy projects, including energy storage and hybrid installations. With the growing interest from local and international investors, it is clear that Moldovan energy mix shifts towards decarbonisation and decentralisation.
