The Voice of Renewables presents our monthly global roundup of hydrogen energy deals announced or closed in August 2026. Covering major PPAs and offtake agreements alongside financing, M&A, refinancings, bonds, tax equity and joint ventures, this is a concise view of the transactions driving H2 investment and development around the world.
PAs / Offtake
- Nobian & Air Products (Netherlands) — Long-term offtake agreement for RFNBO-certified green hydrogen from Nobian’s Rotterdam chlor-alkali electrolysis plant (14,000 tonnes/year, 1.68 PJ) — one of the first large commercial offtakes tied to Europe’s largest RFNBO-certified hydrogen plant, supporting EU RED III compliance.
Other Deals
- Spain (IDAE) — Awarded €274.2m ($316m) to four green hydrogen projects (102.27MW combined electrolysis capacity) via its second “Auctions-as-a-Service” scheme, rescuing projects that missed EU Hydrogen Bank funding.
- Netherlands — European Commission approved a €780m ($899m) Dutch renewable-hydrogen state-aid scheme targeting ~400MW of electrolyzer capacity via competitive grants (up to 80% upfront support), one of the largest national hydrogen support programs cleared in 2026.
- Climate Fund Managers (Southern Africa) — First close of $182m (ZAR 3bn) for the “SA-H2” green hydrogen fund, backed by Invest International, the EU’s Global Gateway, South Africa’s PIC, Sanlam and DBSA, targeting €728m by 2028 — one of the largest blended-finance vehicles for African green hydrogen/ammonia/methanol infrastructure.
- Hystar & BHEL (Norway/India) — Strategic collaboration for phased local manufacturing of Hystar’s PEM electrolyzer systems in India, aligned with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.
- Comtel, H2-Era Green Valley & Ge-Group (Italy) — Agreement to co-develop a “zero-impact” data center near Florence, powered by an 84MW solar plant with excess energy used to produce green hydrogen — an unusual data-center-plus-hydrogen colocation model.
- Sparc Hydrogen & SunHydrogen (Australia/US) — Technology collaboration to integrate solar-to-hydrogen photocatalysis technologies for pilot testing; SunHydrogen modules reportedly exceeded 10% solar-to-hydrogen efficiency.
